Christmas is here at last, and Folkroom Records are sharing a very special treat with folk fans this year. ‘A Christmas Anthology For You’ is a seasonal collection of songs from Folkroom’s community of musicians, and is available now as a digital exclusive via Bandcamp.

A Christmas Anthology For You celebrates the community around Folkroom, bringing together tracks by independent and unsigned artists who frequent our fortnightly gigs in London and Brighton. There are brand new songs from Emma Ballantine and Tom Hyatt, a new arrangement of a classic carol from BBC Folk Award winner Ben Walker and, for the first time, the album brings together previously-released Christmas songs by Forty Elephant Gang, Ringlefinch, DG Solaris, Paul Mosley, Thickets and Joe Innes and the Cavalcade.

Folkroom’s co-founder Stephen Rötzsch Thomas says: “2020 was all set to be a big year for us at Folkroom; we were due to celebrate ten years of running live folk gigs with some pretty special plans, including our first Brighton and Hove Folk Festival. Instead, everything got cancelled (but we’ll be back with the festival next year, don’t worry!).

Skipping the traditional Folkroom Christmas gig has been a necessity, too, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate the festive season together all the same! It feels like people are particularly eager for Christmas this year. I know I am. It’s been a very difficult time for all of us recently, and musicians have felt the pressure more than most. 

We wanted to pull together a little Bandcamp Friday treat for the holidays that will also allow people a chance to support the talented people that have kept Folkroom going for the last ten years – and maybe allow them to stock up on a few more mince pies come Christmas Eve!”
