Hear the new single from Ben Walker and Kirsty Merryn

Folkroom today releases the first glimpse at Ben Walker and Kirsty Merryn’s forthcoming collaborative EP, Life and the Land. This first song – Westlin Winds – is available now via our Bandcamp page.

When the pair announced a joint project earlier this year little did they know it was the last time they would see each other for months on end. The impact of coronavirus on folk music has been huge – a year of cancelled gigs and empty venues, without even the solace of getting together to play. With a handful of demos recorded before lockdown and the future for performing artists uncertain, Ben and Kirsty regretfully put the EP launch and tour for Life and the Land on hold. They spent the time researching, writing, sharing and swapping from home until they could record together again.

Westlin Winds marks Kirsty Merryn’s first collaboration with the Folkroom label, too – though fans will recognise her as a frequent performer within our community. After launching her debut album She & I during a tour of cathedrals supporting the might Show of Hands, Kirsty marked herself as one of the most promising new talents on the folk scene. Her sophomore record, Our Bright Night, was released to critical acclaim earlier this year, and has been one of our favourite albums during lockdown.

Westlin Winds is available now through the Folkroom Bandcamp.
