‘Rings’ single by Ben Walker out now!

A double shot of good news today for Ben Walker fans, as his new single Rings is released across all major platforms and pre-orders open up for his much anticipated debut solo album Echo.

Rings is the first single from the forthcoming album, bringing together the traditional and modern in an atmospheric and mesmerising track. Along with the song, Ben has unveiled an equally hypnotic music video. As Ben says:

“I’d found a tune from 1780 called The Ring in a book in Cecil Sharp House while researching The Lost Tunes with Rob (Harbron, of Leveret) and I’d wanted to do something with it for a while. There are all these reel-to-reel tapes in there too, some of which haven’t been digitised yet. Steve Roud has one with (folk, crafts and rural heritage legend) George Maynard singing A Sailor From The North Country on it, recorded when he would have been past ninety years old.

“Finding those recordings was like finding a window into another world. The two pieces seemed to work together, fragments of a tune coming back around and around like waves. Bringing George’s voice back like this and sending it out to sea sends shivers down the spine.”

It’s a wonderful first glimpse at the forthcoming album Echo, which comes out on July 5th via Folkroom Records. Pre-orders for the record, which combines Ben’s inimitable musicianship with a flurry of guest vocalists, are open now via the Folkroom Bandcamp.
