Gig News: A Night at the Museum and THEN! That’s What We Called Christmas
The year is slowly drawing to a close, and before we start taking stock of what a terrific year it’s been, Folkroom has time for a few more special nights out! With that in mind, we’d like to announce two very different gigs happening across the south of the UK in November and December.
First up, on November 18th we have our very first event in a new series, Night at the Museum. We’re teaming up with Brighton promoters The Welcome Home Sessions to put on intimate concerts in the arches of the Brighton Toy and Model Museum! All going well, we’ll be looking to put on some wonderful events in this series come 2018, but this will be your first chance to check out Folkroom’s newest venue. The museum is a gorgeous one – elaborate train sets, rare Steiff bears and ceilings adorned with beautiful model aeroplanes! Night at the Museum will be an opportunity to explore the museum’s exhibitions after hours, and discover great new folk music at the same time!
Our first event will see a headline set from acclaimed folk duo Kit Hawes & Aaron Catlow, as well as support from Americana singer-songwriter Margo Cilker, backed by her terrific band. Tickets are only £5, and include entry to the museum. We’ll even have a bar onsite especially for the gig!
Our second new gig, on December 16th, will be our last of 2018. The Folkroom Christmas gig has become something of legend – whether it be all day affairs featuring dozens of acts, or intimate and classy concerts by candlelight. This year we’re bringing our ever-popular THEN! series of gigs into the mix, and dedicating an evening to covering as many songs from Now! Christmas compilations as we possibly can. It promises to be our biggest, silliest, most festive covers gig yet, and we hope you’ll join us. We’re still plotting this one, but you can expect all the usual suspects from our previous THEN! gigs, and somewhere in the region of 25 undeniable Christmas bangers – from Wham! to Mariah Carey, East 17 to Slade. We’ll see if we can’t dig up some extra festive treats before the night, too. Tickets are £7 in advance, and any leftovers on the night will be £10 – but as ever, we expect this night to sell out!
