International Women’s Day at Folkroom
Some exciting news today: on March 5th, Folkroom will be celebrating and supporting International Women’s Day with a very special gig at The Social in London! We’ve curated one of our finest ever line-ups to bring you four of the very best female acts around, and they’ll all be performing in aid of women’s charities! Buy your tickets now, and guarantee your place in the audience.
We think it’s fair to say that there are few internationally recognised days as vital as International Women’s Day. It is a day that marks far more than a celebration of a gender, serving more importantly to highlight the continued and varied imbalances and injustices against the women that still occur daily worldwide. With events worldwide on March 8th and, like us, the days surrounding IWD itself, we’re proud to be putting on a gig that will celebrate female musicians who have played a huge part in Folkroom whilst all supporting worthy causes, as chosen by the acts and our Twitter followers.
Who are the four acts playing the gig? Brace yourselves – they’re all incredible. We’ve got a headline set from Nadine Khouri, who has been working with acclaimed producer John Parish to create rich, glorious music that sounds like a 4am sunrise.
We’ve also got sets from Southampton’s country-folk duo Lucas & King, acclaimed singer-songwriter Jess Morgan and blues-folk genius Blanche Ellis. Get your tickets in advance here!
What’s more, we’ve recruited a bucket-load of Folkroom’s friends and collaborators to help get your hyped up for the show – each act has put together a playlist of female acts that they either love or have been inspired by. We’ll be posting one a day from now right up until the gig itself. Come back to this post each day for a new one, or follow us on Twitter or Facebook!
