Sophie Jamieson is Where

That’s not a typo – sure, Sophie Jamieson is here at last with her debut EP – out on Folkroom Records today. But Sophie Jamieson is also ‘Where’, which is the name of said EP. It might be fair to say that Folkroom has never put out an EP that captures so consistently the sound and character of artist. You can buy your copy of ‘Where’ here!

The EP gives us five tracks of Sophie Jamieson’s inimitable music – deeply atmospheric, intense and mesmeric. Sophie’s been making big waves in the London folk scene over the past year, thanks in equal measures to her prolific gig schedule and her beguiling onstage presence. Folkroom fans will remember her turn on Anthology Two, ‘Dinah’, which makes an appearance on the new EP.

In many ways, ‘Where’ represents a truly collaborative Folkroom release, with members of Patch & the Giant and The Lost Cavalry offering musical accompaniment, as well as Ben Walker’s deft touch on both production and guitars. But there is no escaping that all the collaboration in the world couldn’t dilute Sophie’s overwhelming presence on ‘Where’. It is truly her EP in every way, with her eye being cast over every stage of production to create not only a sound that is uniquely hers, but also a look. Sophie took personal control over design, and the EP’s cover serves now as a perfect extension to the rest of the record.
