Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker ‘Homemade Heartache EP’ – OUT NOW

Available for to buy and download now…

It’s here!

We’ve only gone and released another top notch EP for you! Available now, today, right this minute, from an internet browser tab near you: Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker‘s‘Homemade Heartache’ EP. It’s been a long-time coming, and we’ve worked really hard to make sure it sounds absolutely ruddy perfect. We think we’ve succeeded, too.

Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker are two of the brightest rising stars in the UK folk scene, and we’re honoured to have them working with us at Folkroom Records. Earlier this year they won the prestigious Isambard Folk Award, and now they’ve released their new EP, ‘Homemade Heartache’ through our little label.

If you head on over to the Bandcamp page, you’ll be able to buy the four-track EP either digitally for £4 or on a £5 special edition CD complete with handmade packaging. When we say ‘special edition’ we mean it, too – this brief first run of only 200 copies have had their sleeves handmade (in the spirit of the EP’s title) by Josienne and Ben themselves. I should know – I sat and watched them do it, like some Victorian factory owner working out of Crouch End. Each case is unique and could come in any number of colourful combinations. We like beautiful finishing touches as much as the next person, so each CD comes with a little inner sleeve featuring Josienne’s heartbreaking lyrics too.

‘Homemade Heartache’ is a little bit of country, a little bit traditional folk. Above all else, though, it’s an unpretentious and instantly accessible EP featuring gorgeous lyrics, startling instrumentation and one of the most notable voices in the folk scene today. From the deceptively bright and cheerful ‘Just Travelling’ through to the gentle closure of ‘Every Tear Means Change’, we’re sure you’re going to love it.

You can listen to the title track on the Bandcamp page from which you can by the album, but we’ve also put it up on our soundcloud page where, as if we weren’t spoiling you enough already, you’ll also find a free download of Gillian Welch‘s ‘I Want To Sing That Rock and Roll‘. Check it out, below.

AND AS IF THAT WASN’T ENOUGH?

To celebrate the EP, we’ll be holding a launch party at The Gallery Café tonight, July 21st. Josienne and Ben will top a bill that is filled out by Canadian singer-songwriter Camille Delean and chamber folk artist Citizen Helene. Anyone who knows the acts will be able to tell you that three stunning and unique voices of this calibre rarely come together in one place. And tickets are only £4 on the door! Ridiculous.
