By the time Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker were announced as the winners of the 2011 Isambard Folk Award, the only people who didn’t expect them to win were the duo themselves. Their friends, their fans, and anyone who had heard their heart-rending take on a traditional folk sound knew that Josienne and Ben were onto something special.

After two acclaimed albums, ‘One Light Is Gone’ and ‘The Seas Are Deep’, their first release with Folkroom Records injected an accent of country music into their emotional and brutally honest approach to folk. They followed the ‘Homemade Heartache’ EP with a Radio 2 Folk Award-nominated album, ‘Fire & Fortune’, released on Navigator in 2013. ‘Homemade Heartache’ is available both digitally and on CD.

“Clarke’s exquisite melancholy captures every nuance and emotion of the lyrics while Walker’s accompaniment is judged to perfection, complementing and enhancing each and every word. Clarke is also a weapons grade writer” – Americana UK

Robin

Robin Elliott might just be the most important musician we’ve had the pleasure of working with. ‘Experimental’ might be a term that turns people off, but Robin’s music is so playful it’s possible to miss just how creative and unusual it actually is. We’ve heard Robin described as any number of things, from ‘the James Joyce of folk’ to ‘a musician’s musician’. But we think that does him a disservice – he’s also one of the most interesting, accessible songwriters in England today.

Robin released his EP, ‘weapons antique and modern’ on Folkroom in 2013, and is currently finishing off his debut album.
